In early 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown, Airbnb launched Online Experiences, allowing people around the world to take part in unique activities from the comfort and safety of their homes. To build awareness, we developed several timely initiatives — one of them was Field Trips.

At the time, kids were stuck at home and remote learning had become the new normal. Extracurricular activities had disappeared, and parents were balancing the roles of both teacher and caregiver. Airbnb, meanwhile, had access to fascinating hosts, experts, and micro-communities across the globe. Our opportunity was to help parents let their kids explore the world without ever leaving home.

Through Field Trips, we turned the world into one big classroom — where kids didn’t just read about Pompeii, they joined an archaeologist live from the ancient city, all from the comfort of their living rooms.
